{"id":4634,"date":"2018-10-17T08:58:30","date_gmt":"2018-10-17T08:58:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kingsrhythmcrew.com\/?page_id=4634"},"modified":"2022-08-25T09:22:10","modified_gmt":"2022-08-25T09:22:10","slug":"snowy-white","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.kingsrhythmcrew.com\/index.php\/snowy-white\/","title":{"rendered":"Snowy White"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\">Website: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.snowywhite.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.snowywhite.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\">(BIO)<\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-20\">Snowy White<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0is one of a handful of classic blues-orientated British electric guitar players &#8211; musicians whose sound, technique and style has echoed the originality of the blues with the excitement of contemporary rock.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">At the age of eleven he first heard the urban blues sound that had been emanating from the United States, people such as<\/span><span class=\"font-21\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">BB King, Buddy Guy, Otis Rush<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Albert King<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">, and was immediately aware that this was the music that he wanted to incorporate in his playing. He has developed his own style of \u2018English \u2018 blues, a combination of clear, clean blues phrases and harder-edged riffs that are a recognisable feature of his very personal songs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">Arriving in\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">London<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0in the early seventies with the classic \u2018few pennies in his pocket\u2019 he gradually made a name for himself among the local musicians and became respected as a tasteful player and an easy guy to get along with.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-20\">In 1974<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0he toured the east coast of America, getting as far south as New Orleans and discovering that he thoroughly enjoyed being \u2018on the road\u2019. He had by then become friendly with the now legendary English blues guitarist\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Peter Green<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0and they spent a lot of time jamming together.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">During the mid-seventies\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Snowy<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0played on various sessions, developed his skills in the studio environment, and started writing his own material.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">In the Autumn of\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">1976<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0he was invited to tour America and Europe with the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Pink Floyd<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0as their first augmenting musician, a gig which took up most of his time throughout\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">1977.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">In\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">1978<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0the band\u2019s keyboard player\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Rick Wright<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0asked him to play guitar on his solo album, entitled\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">&#8216;Wet Dream,&#8217;\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">which he recorded in the South of France.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">In\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">1979\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">Peter Green decided to head for the studio once more and invited Snowy along to jam. The result was the album entitled<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">\u2018In the Skies\u2019<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">, now something of a collectors item.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">He was then asked by the Pink Floyd to go to America to rehearse their new show entitled \u2018The Wall\u2019, and, at the same time, the rock band\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Thin Lizzy\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">invited him to become a full-time member. So after the completion of the Floyds\u2019 US dates he returned to England and went straight into the studio to record his first Thin Lizzy album &#8216;<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Chinatown&#8217;.<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0This album includes some songs co-written by Snowy, notably the title track. Two and a half years of world tours and recording with the band followed, including the making of Snowy\u2019s second album with them, entitled\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">\u2018Renegade\u2019<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">. Snowy again co-wrote some of the songs and the title track. After this long period of work he decided that it was time to do his own thing and quit the band in 1982.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">In the following twelve months he got together with musicians that he had known and admired for a long time &#8211; drummer\/percussionist\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Richard Bailey<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">, keyboard player\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Godfrey Wang<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">, and his good friend for many years, bassist and producer<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Kuma Harada<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">. Together they came up with Snowy\u2019s first solo album,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">\u2018White Flames.\u2019\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">A single, the timeless\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">\u2018Bird of Paradise&#8217;,<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">written by Snowy, which was taken from the album, became an international hit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">However, the idea of becoming a \u2018singles\u2019 artiste, with the consequent concern about where the next hit record was coming from, did not appeal to him, and he took a break to rethink his musical direction. During that time he put together a gigging blues band, &#8216;<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">The Blues Agency<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">&#8216;, with drummer\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Jeff Allen<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">, his old friend Kuma on bass, and, as he wanted to concentrate only on playing the guitar, singer and harp player\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Graham Bell<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">. Between 1986 and 1989 the band played in the UK and Europe, and recorded two albums,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">\u2018Change my Life\u2019<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">, followed by \u2018<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Open for Business<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u2019 (which was released in Europe as\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">\u2018Blues on Me\u2019<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">In June\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">1990 Roger Waters<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">, having split from the Pink Floyd, asked Snowy to perform with him on the spectacular \u2018<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">The Wall<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u2019 show in Berlin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">In\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">1991<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0Waters again called upon Snowy, this time to play at the \u2018<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Guitar Legends<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u2019 concert in Seville as part of Expo.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">After this concert Snowy decided that it was time that he returned to the mainstream of things so he set about putting down songs that he had been writing during the previous few years. The result was the album entitled\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">\u2018Highway to the Sun\u2019<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">. Recorded in the Summer of\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">1993<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0it contained ten original songs plus a version of Peter Green\u2019s \u2018I loved another Woman\u2019, a long-time favourite of Snowy\u2019s. The album also has guest appearances by\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Chris Rea<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0( slide guitar on the title track),\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">David Gilmour<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0and<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">\u00a0Gary Moore<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">. It also introduced two new brilliant Dutch-Indonesian musicians,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Juan van Emmerloot\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">(drums\/percussion) and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Walter Latupeirissa<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">(bass and rhythm guitar). Kuma Harada also played bass and rhythm.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">John \u2018Rabbit\u2019 Bundrick<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0featured on keyboards. The video of the title track has Chris Rea guesting on slide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">\u2018<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Bird of Paradise\u2019<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0then came back into the picture when KLM airlines decided to use it on their new TV advertising campaign, resulting in the single reentering the charts in Europe and the compilation album \u2018Birds of Paradise\u2019 doing extremely good business for most of 1994.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">Snowy\u2019s next album project was released on the UK record label RPM. Entitled\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">\u2018Gold Top\u2019<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">, after his well-known Gibson Les Paul \u2018Goldtop Standard\u2019 guitar, it features material in which Snowy has been involved from as far back as\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">1974<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0right up to\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">1996<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">. This album includes two tracks from Thin Lizzy, jams from the Peter Green \u2018In the Skies\u2019 session (with Peter on 2nd guitar), Al Stewart live in Philadelphia (1974), and the only complete version of the Pink Floyd song \u2018Pigs on the Wing\u2019, featuring Snowy\u2019s original guitar solo (never before released), as well as some live Snowy White blues and some previously unreleased material. Dave Gilmour and Chris Rea also appear on tracks taken from his recent \u2018Highway to the Sun\u2019 CD. The album closes with the hit single \u2018Bird of Paradise\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">Snowy then recorded three albums with his White Flames band, \u201c<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">No Faith Required<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">&#8216; in\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">1996<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">, \u2018<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Little Wing<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u2019 in\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">1998\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">&#8216;Keep Out:We Are Toxic\u2019\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">in\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">1999<\/span><span class=\"font-22\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">Another compilation, entitled \u2018<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Pure Gold &#8211; The Solo Years\u2019<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0was also released in 1999.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">Also in this year Snowy joined Roger Waters for his bands&#8217; \u2018<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">In The Flesh<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u2019 US tour, which was so successful that, in the Summer of<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">2000<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">, Roger again toured the States, this time recording a live album and making a film of the show.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">Early in 2000 \u2018<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Little Wing<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u2019 was released in the States under the title \u2018<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Melting<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u2019, and in July of that year Snowy White &amp; the White Flames played a showcase gig at BB King\u2019s Blues Bar off Times Square in New York.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">A final White Flames album (as a three-piece), entitled &#8216;<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Restless,<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">&#8216; was released in May\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">2002<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">. Tracks include &#8216;Blues is the Road&#8217;, &#8216;Restless&#8217;, &#8216;The Time Has Come&#8217;, &#8216;Soldier of Fortune&#8217;, &#8216;Softly&#8217;, &#8216;It&#8217;s Your Life&#8217;, &#8216;New Day&#8230;Maybe,&#8217; \u2018You Can&#8217;t Break My Heart\u2019 and &#8216;Too Far Away&#8217;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">From February to July\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">2002<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0Snowy toured the world with Roger Waters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">Spring 2005 saw the release of a new\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">White Flames<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0cd, entitled &#8220;<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">The Way It Is<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">&#8220;, with a basic four-piece outfit consisting of Richard Bailey (drums\/percussion), Walter Latupeirissa (bass) and Max Middleton (keyboards). Guest musicians include Juan van Emmerloot on drums\/percussion, Kuma Harada on bass guitar,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">James Lascelles<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0on hammond,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Dawn Knight<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0on backing vocals and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Ray Carless<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0on saxophone.Track listing: No Stranger to the Blues, Bird of Paradise, Black Magic Woman, What I&#8217;m Searching For, Angel Inside You (parts one and two), Falling,The Way It Is, A Piece of Your Love, This Time of My Life, Easy, Sweet Bluesmaker.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">A DVD, &#8216;<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">The Way It Is &#8211; Live<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">&#8216;, filmed in Vilnius, Lithuania, was released in 2005<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">From April to October\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">2006<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0Snowy toured Europe and America with Roger Waters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">The Autumn of\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">2006\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">saw The White Flames Band performing in the UK and Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">From January to July\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">2007<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0Snowy toured Australia, New Zealand, South America, China, India, Europe and North America\/Canada with Roger Waters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">A live album from the White Flames Band, entitled &#8216;<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Liveflames,<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">&#8216; was released in October 2007.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">April to June\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">2008<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0Snowy toured again with Roger Waters, after which he started work on a new White Flames Band album entitled &#8216;<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Realistic<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">&#8216;, with Juan van Emmerloot, Walter Latupeirissa, and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Max Middleton<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">. The recording of this album continued through 2009 and into 2010.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">In the Autumn of\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">2008<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0Snowy formed\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">The Snowy White Blues Project<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">, with\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Matt Taylor<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0(guitar\/vocals),\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Ruud Weber Jnr\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">(bass guitar\/vocals), and Juan van Emmerloot (drums), recording a blues-orientated album, &#8216;<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">In Our Time of Living<\/span><span class=\"font-21\">.<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">&#8216; During\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">2009\/10<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0the band were gigging throughout Europe. They released a live album &#8216;<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">In Our Time&#8230;Live<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">&#8216; in 2010.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">In the Summer of\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">2010<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0Snowy completed the recording of &#8216;<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">Realistic<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">&#8216;, which was released in early\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">2011<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">Autumn\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">2010<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">\u00a0saw Snowy touring the USA, Canada and Mexico with Roger Water&#8217;s &#8216;The Wall&#8217; show, which then continued throughout Europe in the first half of 2011 and returned to the USA in\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">2012<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"para-4\"><span class=\"font-19\">In between these tours he found time to record a live DVD, &#8216;<\/span><span class=\"font-20\">After Paradise<\/span><span class=\"font-19\">&#8216;, featuring many of the musicians that have played with him over his long career. Tracks included are: I&#8217;m Getting Ready, Midnight Blues, I&#8217;ll Be Moving On, Red Wine Blues, Judgement Day, Blue To The Bone, Slabo Day, Tears In My Eyes, Lucky Star, Bird Of Paradise, The Journey (Parts1 and 2), Falling, On The Edge Of Something, Ongoing&#8230;, Can&#8217;t Get Enough Of The Blues, At The Crossroads.
